Api is the highest peak in the Yoka Pahar Section of Gurans Himal, part of the Himalayas in the extreme northwest corner of Nepal, near the borders of Tibet. It is a little-known peak in a rarely visited part of the Himalayas, but it rises dramatically over the low surrounding terrain.It has a real wilderness, amazing landscape, cultural diversity, furiously galloping snow fed rivers and pristene forest and the main eye popping factors of the trek. Api Himal base camp trek grants panoramic view of Thado Dhunga Tuppa(5,368m), Api Himal, Rajama(6,537m), Kapchuli(6850m), Mt Nandadevi(7817m) along with many other Himalayan peaks. There too is famous holy Lake Kalidhunga, which lies within one and half hours walk from Api Himal base camp trek.This remote area is inhibited Bhotia people.

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft). Transfer to hotel

Day 02

Kathmandu Valley Tour.

Day 03

Fly from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi (109m/ 1.15 hr)

Morning flight to Dhangadhi (1.15 hr flight). Dhangadhi is the capital of the Kailali District. After check in at the hotel in dhangadi, we explore the city.

Day 04: Drive from Dhangadhi to Gokuleshwar . 8 hours

From a flat land ofDhangadi, our drive goes up hill to Gokuleshwor, around 8 hrs drive. About 3-4 hours of uphill drive will bring us to Dadeldhura, a town in the far western region of Nepal, which is also famous as the Queen of Hills. After having lunch at Dadeldhura, our vehicle will continue on a winding road through the hills of the far western Nepal witnessing beautiful views of the Himalayas, Chamelyia Valley, river, small and traditional settlement of people. We will reach Gokuleshwor in the afternoon. We stop for the night in Gokuleswor.

Day 05: Drive from Gokuleshwar to Latinath(1,004m)2 hrs. & trek to Paribagar (1,770m/5,807ft) 1 hour

We will drive to Latinath, s hr drive.. Latinath is the starting point of the Api Base Camp trek. Our walk is up to Paribagar, a beautiful village located at the altitude of 1,770m. An hour of uphill climb will take us to Paribagar. The evening can be spent exploring the village.

Day 06: Trek Paribagar to Makarigadi (1,470m/4,822ft) 5 hours

The trail passes through the traditional village of the mid-hills exhibiting traditional stone houses, ancient agricultural terraces and the pristine land of the Far-Western region of Nepal. After 2 hrs of walk, we stop for lunch at one of the teahouses en route. Hiking continues along the Chameliya River through the subtropical forest and then through the subalpine - fir, oak, hemlock and rhododendron forests to Makrigaad. After about two hours of hiking, we will come to a very beautiful settlement of Markigadi.

Day 07: Trek Makrigaad to Siti (2,254m/7,395ft) 8 hours

Walk starts with a short steep climb to the Chameliya River. Crossing the river, we will now climb up the gorge and continue towards the village called Pato, enjoying the spectacular view. We will have our lunch at Pato. The climb further from Pato is gentle, but steady. We will continue on this gently ascending steady trail till the last ridge, from where a fairly easy downward hike will take us to the beautiful settlement of Siti. It’s only after about 8 hours of walk, we reach our overnight destination.

Day 08: Trek Siti to Domal (2,950m/9,678ft) 7 hours

Trek is downhill walk to the village of Khayekot, s small beautiful village located on the bank of the Chameliya River. The settlement of Khayekot is also recorded as the Chameliya Valley’s last permanent settlement. Lunch is at Khayekot. We slowly ascend to Domal. About 7 hours of walk from Siti, we reach Domal.  

Day 09: Trek from Domal to Dhaulo Odar (lower Api Base Camp) (3,548m/11,640ft) 5 hours

Walk starts with steep climb. On reaching the top, the trail is fairly easy and continues through the forest and open pasture areas. After walking for about five hours we reach an open grassland surrounded by high mountains and rhododendron forest and a few small caves. This is where we pitch our tent today.

Day 10: Trek Daulo Odar to Api Base Camp/Pilkandaha (3,861m/12,667ft) and back to Daulo Odar

Today, we reach the base camp of Mt. Api. After breakfast, carrying a packed lunch, we set off towards the Api Base Camp. About 2 and a half hour of upward climb from Daulo Odar will take us to a big open plateau surrounded by mountains. This plateau is the Api Base Camp. As we reach the plateau, the grandest view of Mt. Api (7,132m) accompanied by Mt. Nampa (6,929m) and Mt Bobaye (6,808m) greet the Api Base Camp trekkers. After enjoying the alluring view, we head towards the source of the Chameliya River and also visit the nearby small temple built by the local people. We will have our lunch and then visit the holy lake Pilkandaha. After visiting the lake, we will now return to Daulo Odar for overnight stay.

Day 11: Trek Daulo Odar to Siti (2,258m/7,408ft) 6 hours

Bidding farewell to the beautiful Mt. Api and the surrounding of Daulo Odar, today, we set on our journey back to Siti. The downhill walk will first bring us to the settlement of Khayekot. After having lunch at Khayekot a steep climb will take us to the village of Siti. Along the way, we will be accompanied by agricultural terraces and beautiful green hills. We can opt staying in in a homestay in Siti, where you can also enjoy dinner made by the members of the host family.

Day 12: Trek Siti to Makrigaad (1,470m/4,822ft) 6 hours

The trek begins with a climb to the ridge above Siti. The trail now along the ridge passes through forest, agricultural fields and sparse settlement of people. Along the way we will also get a chance to enjoy the views of the Himalayas. We stop for lunch at Pato and a steady downhill walk will take us to the settlement of Makarigaad. If you have the time and energy the evening can be spent exploring the settlement of Makrigaad. The night will be spent in a homestay in Makrigaad.

Day 13: Trek Makarigadi to Latinath (4 hour) and drive to Gokuleshwar (2 hour)

We hike to Latinath. About 4 hours of downhill walk will bring us to Latinath, past Paribagar. The hike to Latinath is less demanding and very pleasant. If time permits, after arriving Latinath, we will also go for a short hike to the Hindu temple located just above the Latinath. If time doesn’t permit, we will directly take a bus to Gokuleshwar. After about 2 hours of scenic bus ride, we will reach Gokuleshwar. From the bus station we will be transferred to a very basic lodge at Gokuleshwar for overnight stay.

Day 14: Drive from Gokuleshwar to Dhangadhi (109m/357ft) 9 hours

Today we start early. After breakfast at Gokuleshwar, we will be transferred to the bus station in Gokuleshwar to catch a bus to Dhangadhi. The bus, making its way through the beautiful green hills with terrace farms, hamlets and small roadside teahouse, reaches Dadeldhura by noon. We will have our lunch at Dadeldhura, rest for some time and then continue towards Dhangadhi on a Mahakali Highway. About about 9 hours of scenic drive, we will reach Dhangadhi for dinner and overnight stay. The night will be spent in a tourist standard hotel in Dhangadhi.

Day 15: Fly from Dhangadhi to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Fly to Kathmandu, transfer to hotel.

Day 16: Free day in KAthmandu.

Day 17: Final departure

Transfer to airport.

Please note: Clients are suggested to give maximum of 10 to 12 Kg. of personal luggage to the porter. Also, please note that on the domestic flight you are only allowed to carry your luggage of 10 Kg and 5 Kg as a hand carry.
